India Tiger Estimation - 2018:- The count of tigers in India has risen to almost 3,000 (actual = 2967), in 2018, according to this census. India achieved its commitment to the St.Petersburg Declaration, of doubling Tiger population, much in advance to the 2022 deadline. Top 3 states with number of tigers:   1. Madhya Pradesh (526)  2. Karnataka (524)   3. Uttarakhand (442) Chhatisgarh and Mizoram saw a decline in their tiger numbers while tiger’s numbers in Odisha remained constant. All other States witnessed a positive trend. None found in Buxa, Palamu and Dampa reserves Data was collected using an Android based application- M-STrIPES ( Monitoring system for Tigers’ Intensive Protection and Ecological Status).

India’s first national Time Release Study (TRS):- TRS held between 1st – 7th August. The TRS is an internationally recognized tool advocated by World Customs Organization to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of international trade flows. This initiative for accountable governance, will measure rule based and procedural bottlenecks (including physical touchpoints) in the clearance of goods, from the time of arrival until the physical release of cargo. RCEP:- The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which is a proposed Free Trade Agreement between 10 ASEAN member states and their six Free Trade Agreement (FTA) partners namely India, Australia, China, Japan, New Zealand and Republic of Korea. It means a zero-customs duty zone in a geography that contributes 34% of global gross domestic product (GDP) and 40% of world trade. The region is also home to almost half of the world’s population. Why India need RCEP? 1. RCEP will be continuation of Act East policy. 2. Composite Water Management Index 2.0 (CWMI 2.0):- - NITI Aayog first launched CWMI in 2018 to instill the sense of cooperative and competitive federalism among the states. - Attempts to create a pan-India set of metrics that measured different dimensions of water management and use across the lifecycle of water. Scientific management of water is vital to India’s growth and ecosystem sustainability. Government has created the Ministry of Jal Shakti to consolidate interrelated functions pertaining to water management.

C-SAT-FI:- (C-DOT Satellite WiFi) is based on the optimal utilization of wireless and satellite communication to extend connectivity to the unserved areas including the remote islands and difficult terrains. Besides offering the ease of deployment, the solution is ideally suited to addressing disasters and emergencies when no other means of communication are available. The technology will help providing Wi-Fi in all the villages through GramNet with connectivity between 10mbps to 100 mbps speed. National Population Register (NPR) The NPR is a list of “usual residents of the country”. A “usual resident of the country” is one who has been residing in a local area for at least the last six months, or intends to stay in a particular location for the next six months.  Unlike the National Register of Citizens (NRC), the NPR is not a citizenship enumeration drive, as it would record even a foreigner staying in a locality for more than six months. The NPR is being prepared under provisions of the Citizenship Act 1955 and the Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and issue of National Identity Cards) Rules, 2003. It is mandatory for every “usual resident of India” to register in the NPR. The idea of conducting a nationwide NRC would only happen on the basis of the upcoming NPR.
