Election Commission(EC):
It is a permanent and an independent body established by the Constitution of India.It ensures free and fair elections in the country.
The Constitution provide Election Commission the power to superintend, direct and control the elections of parliament, state legislature, the office of President of India and the Vice-President of India.
Composition of Election Commission:
According to Article 324 of the Constitution, Election Commission shall consist of CEC and other ECs. The number of ECs will be fixed by the President from time to time.
Some facts:
Election Commission is not concerned with the election of Panchayats and Muncipalities in the state.ECs hold the office for the term of six years or until they attain the age of 65 years, which ever is earlier.
